Crop an image

Cut a picture down to the part you want, in the shape you need: a square for a profile photo, 4:5 for a post, 9:16 for a story or 16:9 for a thumbnail. It happens on your device.

    How it works

    1. Add your picture.
    2. Choose the shape, then zoom in and move until the preview shows the part you want.
    3. Press Crop image and download the result.

Crop first, then resize or compress

Cropping removes what you do not need, so everything after it works better: a resized picture keeps more detail of the part that matters, and a compressed one spends its bytes on it. If a form sets a size limit, crop here first and compress afterwards.

    Frequently asked questions

    Does cropping lower the quality?

The part you keep is not stretched or shrunk: it has the same pixels it had in the original. A JPG is saved again at high quality (95%); choose PNG if you want no loss at all.

How do I get an exact size in pixels?

Crop to the shape here, then use Resize Image to set the pixels. For a form that wants exact pixels and a size in KB, Form photo resizer does both in one step.

Can I crop several pictures at once?

Yes. The same shape, zoom and position are used for every picture, and the preview shows the first one. For pictures that need different crops, do them one at a time.

    Which shape do I need?

A square (1:1) suits profile pictures. Instagram posts are often 4:5, stories, reels and WhatsApp statuses 9:16, and YouTube thumbnails and slides 16:9. For anything else choose "Another shape" and type the two parts, such as 5 and 7.

    Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens inside your browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to a server, and you can confirm that in your browser's network tab. Close the tab and they're gone.

Is there a file size limit?

Each file can be up to 100 MB, and up to 300 MB in total. Because the work happens on your device, very large files depend on your available memory. A desktop browser handles them best.
