How Stayput Tools works
Every tool runs inside your browser. Your files are read from your device, processed there, and the result is saved back to your device. Nothing is sent to a server.
What happens to your file
- You choose a file. Your browser reads it into memory on your device.
- The tool's code, which was downloaded with the page, processes it locally.
- The result is made available as a download, straight from your device's memory.
- When you close or reload the page, the file and the result are gone.
Check it yourself
You do not have to take our word for it:
- Load a tool, turn off your internet connection, and use it. It keeps working, because nothing needs a server.
- Open your browser's developer tools (usually F12), go to the Network tab and run a tool. You will see no upload of your file.
The guide to online tool safety explains how to run the same checks on any site.
Limits you should know about
Working on your own device has trade-offs, and we prefer to be upfront about them.
- Files can be up to 100 MB each, 300 MB in total, and up to 50 at a time. Very large files depend on your device's memory.
- Password-protected PDFs, and PDFs with security restrictions, cannot be edited directly. Use Unlock PDF first.
- Compressing a PDF to a size or a lower quality turns its pages into images, so text is no longer selectable.
- Watermarks and page numbers support standard Latin characters only.
- Photos larger than your device can handle (over 16 megapixels on iPhones and iPads) are scaled down, and the result says so.
- HEIC photos only open in Safari.
Works in modern browsers
Stayput Tools works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on computers and phones. It needs JavaScript turned on. Once a page has loaded, the tools you have used keep working offline.
