    How it works

    1. Add a photo of the person. A portrait taken in good light works best.
    2. Zoom in and move the frame until the face is where it should be. The preview shows the real result.
    3. Press the button, then download the photo and the sheet to print.

    A square photo

2 × 2 inch is 51 × 51 mm, and at 300 dpi that is 600 × 600 pixels. Some applications, mostly for visas and passports, ask for exactly this in a digital file, and shops print it in the same size.

Because the photo is square, a standing portrait is cut from the middle: zoom in so that the head and the top of the shoulders fill the frame, and move it so that the head is centred. Applications often say how much of the frame the head should take up, so read that line of the instructions.

    Printing copies

Two 2 × 2 inch photos fit on a 4 × 6 inch sheet, and many on an A4 sheet. Choose the paper in the options and the page arranges the copies for you.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is the file 600 × 600 pixels?

At 300 dpi, yes. Some online applications set their own pixel limits (a minimum and a maximum, such as 600 × 600 to 1200 × 1200). Choose 600 dpi for 1200 × 1200 pixels, or type another size, and check the figures in the instructions.

    Will my photo be accepted?

This tool gets the size, the file size and the layout right. What an office accepts is for that office to say: many ask for a plain light background, a straight face with both ears visible, no shadows, no glasses glare, and a face that fills a set part of the frame. Read the instructions of the form or the notice, and check the preview against them before you submit.

Can it change or remove the background?

No. It cuts your picture to size and arranges copies; it does not edit what is in the picture. Take the photo standing in front of a plain light wall, in even daylight, and the background will be right from the start.

How do I print the sheet at the right size?

Open the sheet and print it at 100% or "actual size", with "fit to page" turned off, on the paper size you chose. A photo shop can print the file the same way: ask for it at actual size with no cropping. Cut along the thin grey lines.

    Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything happens inside your browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to a server, and you can confirm that in your browser's network tab. Close the tab and they're gone.

Is there a file size limit?

Each file can be up to 100 MB, and up to 300 MB in total. Because the work happens on your device, very large files depend on your available memory. A desktop browser handles them best.
